Metaphors of Movement

Dear Friend,
Andy’s Metaphors of Movement workshop last year was such a powerful experience that we are bringing him back for more. We told Andy that we think this workshop is ready to teach on a wide scale now.
What was an intriguing set of ideas has become a potent and coherent whole. Metaphors of Movement, as Andy is teaching and using it, can be used as a path for personal evolution as well as for clarity and resolution of specific issues. The training this year will specifically focus on personal development, emotions and enhancing our relationships.
We hope you’ll consider joining us.

Metaphors of Movement:
Level I & II
4-Day Training with Andrew T. Austin (April 20-23, 2012)
Boulder, Colorado, USA
What is Metaphors of Movement and how will it benefit me?
Have you ever said things like, “I don’t know which way to turn,” “I know I’m walking on thin ice,” “There are too many hurdles to overcome,” or “my goals always seem out of reach”?
These are just a few everyday examples of “Metaphors of Movement” — our metaphoric experience of our life situation, or of how we are approaching a particular challenge or goal. It’s all but impossible to speak about our life, including our difficulties, our challenges, and goals, without revealing our metaphoric experience — if we know what to listen for.
Often we attempt to find solutions by thinking about things on the verbal level. Yet our results — both successes and failures — are driven by a deeper level of experience: that of image and metaphor.
This workshop will give us ways to discover this metaphoric level of experience, and give us specific ways to explore and change it so that we can easily find “the way forward.” What we need to do can become naturally and organically clear.
When someone says “I am in a pit of despair,” or “I’m up against a wall,” this may be a literal description of their internal experience. We can talk and goal-set all we like, but if we don’t know where we are in our mental landscape, we aren’t likely to resolve our life situation.
If we “have endless hurdles to overcome” we will need to make a different shift than will someone who experiences being “lost in a quagmire.” In this workshop you’ll learn to tune in to these differences, and how to recognize and aptly meet the metaphor we — or our clients — are actually using.
"After attending a workshop with Andy I put into practice within a week my new found skills— WOW!—amazing and rapid results. Within 2 hours a client who had spent thousands of pounds seeking a cure from others found the right way forward…”
— Lesley Hoyle (NLP Practitioner in private practice)

Comments from Participants in the 2011 4-Day in Boulder
Last year people loved this training. Here are a few of their comments. Our feedback forms were anonymous, but a few people added their names anyway.
“This training is certainly ‘leading-edge’ information. My money was well spent. I felt the marketing material did not do the training justice. Those who did not attend missed something very valuable.” — Jessie Milan, Denver
“This training has helped me have a completely different view of all the training I’ve had to this point. My view of the world and others has expanded where I can fit so much more into it.”
“This is like a mental 'reboot' — returning to the way we learned to think in the first place. It opens up whole new areas of perception. Like recovering sight or hearing.”
“Six direction model is usable on oneself, without a partner… and it works well. Terrific teacher!”
“Incredibly insightful and thought-provoking training. Andrew Austin is extremely entertaining, bold yet covertly compassionate, and skillfully models how to help chronic clients discover where they stand with their problems.”
“Andy’s Metaphors of Movement has infused me with new energy and perspective for the work I do. It has also given new life to the tools I already have.” — Mark J. Ryan
“This is a simple straightforward way to shift behavior from a congruent, respectful perspective.”
“[What I liked most is] learning and being exposed to this new method — because I think this is really what is needed as far as being able to help people solve their issues. I also appreciate Andy’s approachability and humility very much.”
“Andy has a really enjoyable style of presenting very complex material, making it easy and enjoyable to apply.” — Tom Dotz.
“Learned how to really hear what clients are saying. The model has fundamentally changed how I practice therapy.”
“If you are looking for a very user-friendly change work technique, you have found it in Metaphors of Movement.”
“An extraordinary opportunity to increase your ability to hear your clients by 100%.”
“We all operate largely on the metaphors we carry in our minds, but we are not aware of them. Once Andy exposes you to the world of metaphor, you will never experience the world in the same way again.”
“Andy provided 4 days of enlightenment for me to discover how I can take the client’s language as clue(s) to what is needed. I have new tools for understanding metaphors. Even how amazing movement allows those “Aha’s” of change. Change in what I see and know. Change in how/what moves the client in life.” — Zeke Hanford
